I was standing alone in your garden Asparagus stared up to see Me beg your green beans for a pardon Your tomatoes all laughed at me Whispers were heard from the pea pods Cabbage turned their heads away Cucumbers calculated odds Of whether you would let me stay Come out, come out my darling I'm down in the dirt on my knees Come out, come out my darling Oh please forgive me I prayed that the peppers persuade you I beseeched the beets just to try I summoned the summer squashes too The onions and I had a cry Come out, come out my darling I'm down in the dirt on my knees Come out, come out my darling Oh please forgive me Oh please forgive me

There was an auction in Highland today It was the final step before they move away To a city way out west I'll see my cousins off, I wish them the best Last year three families left town I saw my pool of friends drain further down No one around here likes to be confused No one around here talks like I do There was an auction in Highland There was an auction in Highland They drive their pickup trucks up and down the street It's a mating call that doesn't call to me I'll keep to myself and graduate in May After that I guess, well, I'll be on my way There was an auction in Highland There was an auction in Highland There was an auction in Highland There was an auction in Highland

Backyard 03:31
It's so easy to say the words you want to say It never seems to worry you in any way I wish I could spit it out as good as you I always have to pause and take a beat or two And when I let it out, I guess I always fear My thoughts are not conveyed, I am not being clear But I want to speak my mind, now, don't you get me wrong I just have to write it out or put it in a song I bought a pack of pencils at the dollar store I brought them home and searched inside my heart some more I sharpened one and wrote something to sing to you I thought I'd fall in love; I thought that you would too But I was never bold enough to bring it out I always lacked the courage; I was filled with doubt And time moved on, 'cause time is sad and time is hard But do you think that we could meet in your backyard Let's not talk about the news or politics Let's not parrot YouTube televangelists Let's not dream of luxury amenities Let's not fetishize lives of celebrities Let's not discuss all the things we can't control Let's get up and take ourselves a little stroll I want to say it now before I'm out of time I loved you then, I love you now, say you'll be mine

It's springtime here on the farm And I'm embracing its rural charm Growing there in the yard I say, "What is that?" Mom says, "It's rhubarb." "Oh yeah, strawberry-rhubarb pie, I had a slice one time up in Black River Falls." Mom says, "Well, why not take some home, make yourself a pie 'Cause we don't care for rhubarb at all." I go to my local grocery store "No strawberries today, tomorrow we'll have some more" Next day, strawberries in hand I get a recipe and start to follow its plan: Strawberries, sugar and starch Don't forget the rhubarb, that's the main part Bake it up and then let it cool Get ready to taste it, just try not to drool Uh can I tell you something I'm not sure I like rhubarb pie It might be too sour for this guy I'm not sure I like rhubarb pie Even with strawberries I'm not sure I like rhubarb pie It might be too sour for this guy I'm not sure I like rhubarb pie Even with strawberries

I went by the old house today Well, nothing's changed Yes, everything's the same The weather vane and metal downspout The apple tree that Dad let you pick out Golden Delicious, do you remember? Four-season porches Fully winterized Summer dandelion butter fans chasing fireflies Do you remember? Water wars and honest fights, you know I saw them through the driver's side window Creeping slow, I watched it all go away I don't know why, but I went by today
